Why You Feel Like You’re Overreacting (And What’s Actually Happening in Your Body)

Have you ever reacted to something…and even as it was happening, you thought:
“Why am I acting like this right now?”
Like you knew it didn’t match the moment…but you couldn’t stop it.
The tone.The shutdown.The overthinking.The spiral.
And afterward? You either regret it… or beat yourself up for it.
Let me say this first: You’re not overreacting. You’re activated.
The Truth No One Explains
This isn’t about you being dramatic. This isn’t about you being “too much.”
This is your nervous system doing its job.
Your body isn’t reacting to what’s happening now…It’s reacting to what it remembers.
And that’s where everything shifts.
The Story That Explains Everything (your teaching moment)
I saw a video once of a man with a service dog.
He had severe anxiety in crowds…and needed to go into a busy mall to pick up medication.
As people started rushing in…moving fast… getting loud…
Before anything even happened—
The dog stopped.
Locked eyes with him.Grounded him.
That moment?That pause?
That was the difference between spiraling… and staying regulated.
And here’s why that matters:
Your body does the same thing.
Except instead of a trained dog…
You’ve been running on old programming.
So when something feels familiar—rejection, being ignored, not feeling safe, not being chosen
Your body says:
“We’ve been here before. React.”
Not because it’s true now…But because it was true then.
This Is Where Most Women Get It Wrong
You think:
“I need to communicate better”
“I need to calm down”
“I need to stop being like this”
No.
You need to understand this:
You cannot logic your way out of a body response.
When your nervous system is activated…your thinking brain is already offline.
That’s why you say things you don’t mean. That’s why you shut down. That’s why you spiral.
The Moment That Changes Everything
There is a moment—
Right before the reaction.
It’s fast.It’s subtle.Most people miss it.
But that moment?
That’s your power.
This Is The Work
Not becoming someone who never gets triggered.
But becoming the woman who can:
Pause.Feel.Choose.
Try This Instead (micro reset)
Next time you feel it rising… try this:
Take one slow breath in
Longer breath out
Drop your shoulders
Ask yourself:
“What am I actually feeling right now?”
Not the story. Not what they did.
You.
That question alone will shift you out of reaction… and into awareness.
Use these to go deeper:
What does my body feel like when I’m triggered?
What does this feeling remind me of?
When have I felt this before?
What am I needing in that moment?
What would the version of me I’m becoming do instead?
But let’s be real—
In the moment? You’re not always thinking about journaling.
You just want to not react the way you always do.
That’s exactly why I created this:
🎧 The Pause The Pause
A Guided Nervous System Reset for Triggered Moments
This is for the moment you feel it rising…
When your chest tightens…your thoughts speed up…and you’re about to say or do something you don’t actually want to.
Instead of reacting—
You press play.
And I walk you through regulating your body, interrupting the pattern, and choosing differently.
Because you don’t need more time to heal.
You need support in the moment. Get it here - The Pause
This is how you become unfuckwithable.
Not by never getting triggered—
But by not letting your triggers run your life.
