I have always loved coffee! The smell that lingers in the air, the pretty cups, the warmth it provides you. Coffee is a ritual that is shared with so many throughout the world. We all get up in the morning, make the coffee and most likely read the paper, or if you multi-task like myself.. You have your lemon water shot, put the coffee on, go meditate, and then sit and journal while drinking your fav cup of Joe. For me coffee gave me "permission" for a few moments to just RELAX..

I began looking into other alternative ways to make my coffee healthier and have found this recipe not only improves my energy, but the maca and ashwagandha help to calm my nervous system and improve my hormone function – added bonus – the taste is sinfully delicious!

Before we go into the recipe let me first talk about a my new found love. "OAT MILK". Wait, what is oat milk? It's what happens when you soak steel cut oats or whole groats in water, blend the mixture, and then strain it. The resulting milk-water tastes just like that warm, thin layer of cream that sits atop a bowl of porridge.. Ok who really eats porridge? Oat milk is like a cashmere sweater. Feel me now....

Oat milk consists of steel-cut oats or whole groats that are soaked in water, blended, and then strained with a cheesecloth or a special nut milk bag. "While the leftover oat pulp has the bulk of the fiber and most of the protein in the oats, the liquid or 'milk' that results does have some of the nutrients in oats, says Jones. "Because oats absorb water more easily than nuts, when blended well enough, more of the food itself winds up passing through the cheesecloth, giving a creamier texture than nut milk without added ingredients."

Healthy Coffee Recipe

  • 1 cup of your favorite organic, low acid coffee – freshly brewed

  • ¼ cup – ⅓ cup oat milk – steamed or warmed (Hold up did she say Oat Milk)?

  • ½ tsp ashwagandha

  • ½ tsp organic maca powder

  • 1 tsp (or up to 1 tbsp) 4th & heart ghee

  • Add your choice of sweetener such as raw honey or coconut palm sugar (optional)

Combine all ingredients in your blender for a minute or two, or use an immersion blender. Pour into your favorite coffee mug and enjoy your delicious, healthy, and super smart cup of joe!
