Unlock Athletic Excellence: The Power of Mindset In Sports

In the world of sports, where the clash of strength, skill, and strategy takes center stage, there exists a realm often unseen but profoundly impactful—the power of the mind. Beyond the physical feats that grace the arena, it is the mind, a silent maestro orchestrating the symphony of athletic performance, that holds the key to unlocking unparalleled achievements and enduring success. If you are not the gatekeeper of your mind then you will loose.

I know that sounds harsh but it is true. Most of the time the athletes that I work with in the beginning they do not want to do the mindset work, they want the fun stuff. I tell them in order to have the touchdown glory, the home run or the double back you must first tackle the mind. The mind only understands two things:

  1. The pictures you show it

  2. The words you tell it

If you want to be great, you need to make sure you are showing your mind what you require of it with the right images and the words you tell it. Here are a few tools you can use to start developing a winning mindset.

  • Upon waking visualize yourself doing the skill you need to do perfectly. Example would be: Let's say you are a competitive gymnast and you want to do a double back off the high bars. See yourself in the gym or competition performing that skill perfectly. See everything, how calm you are, feel the chalk on your hands, the crowd screaming and even your desired score at the end. to this three times a day.

  • Set a timer to go off on your phone four times a day - When the timer goes off stop and say inwardly " I am an amazing gymnast or football player (whatever your sport is) you see here is the thing Muhammad Ali would say " I am the greatest" in the beginning he did not think he was the greatest but he kept saying it and it became his mantra. Soon enough he was the greatest .

  • At night write in a journal everything you want to experience, the thrill the calm and anything you need to. It dose not have to be long maybe a paragraph or two
